Seeing and Believing Your Christian Dreams

Is there a vision or a dream you are yet to fulfill; a passion that has not yet seen the light of day?

800px-Sunrise-Daytona-Beach-FLYou may say, “it’s just too difficult to even begin doing something positive with my idea. There’s always so much going on, how do I find time to work on my Dream? It’s just an idea anyway! And there’s plenty of ideas out there these days. Who in their right mind would take my idea on anyway? There’s no real substance to it – just wishful thinking!”

Yes, at this stage it is just wishful thinking. Every great idea has to start somewhere.

As a young man , living with my parents in a large urban sprawl in the UK I had a dream of living by the seaside. I saw myself surfing, having fun and running my own business and playing my guitar in restaurants and cafe’s. It was a dream so far from the reality of my life I might as well dreamed of being the first person on the Moon! But I was unperturbed. I would draw pictures and pictures of my future life and pin them on my bedroom wall. I saw, in my ‘minds-eye’ the small Devonshire community I would be living amongst. I saw the house I’d be living in and the office I’d be working from. In my minds-eye I was running a graphic design and print agency. I saw myself singing in local Restaurants, Pubs and Clubs. I would meditate upon my new life over and over again. In fact it became so real in my heart it just ‘had to’ come about!

A year or so later I was living the exact dream; and loving every minute of it! . But is this ‘Biblical’ you might ask? Or is it simply New Age? In the Bible The LORD had said to Abram, “Go from your country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show you (Genesis 12) He had to see it by faith in his heart before he saw it by sight.

Again the Bible say;s “For as he thinks in his heart, so is he” (Prov 23:7) Question: Is this the missing key in your prayer life? If so, begin to seek the Lord for His plans and purpose for your life. Read again the exploits God’s people and marvel at what God did through them because they believed.

Do you have a Dream or Vision to Fulfil? Or if not, maybe you could ask Him.

The True Value Of Talents & Gifts In The Christian Church

A ‘Talent’ was a measure of worth in New Testament times. Their intrinsic value was based upon the fact they were made of either Gold or Silver.

They were used to purchase goods and services, in the same way use coins today.

As New Testament Believers we each have been given value and worth in our God given Gifts and Talent, as a means of ‘purchasing’ as it were, the Kingdom of Heaven. It takes time and money to Evangelise and to build churches and to train Leaders.

We must be diligent to seek out those who have a passion to train and mentor future leaders, Creative Artists, Singers, Financiers, Entrepreneurs and Ministries.

We need Talent Spotters and opportunities to train talent.

There is so much Gold in ‘them-there-Hills” (our churches and house groups) and it’s up to each one of us to Mine it and use it.

Please read Matthew 25:14

Journaling your Christian Life

“Talking with God, The Word” By Peter j Foster

You’re either a fan of journaling, or not.

If not, let me try convert you to the benefits of this growing Art of communication with God.

First of all, please be assured this is not about ‘automatic handwriting’, the sort practised by New Ager’s. This is for Born Again, Spirit-filled Believers who desire to talk to God and to hear God speaking to them – to develop their relationship with Father God and continue to seek Him.

I guess you could say that Journaling would help if you enjoy writing; but this is not necessary true. I kept a journal for many years before I became a Christian. I found it remarkably therapeutic in committing my thoughts, plans, ideas and concerns to paper. I love writing, but this is not about writing per se. It is about developing a relationship with Father God

So here goes with your first step in relating with God through Journaling.

1. Get yourself a handy writing pad; not too small, you’ll be surprised how quickly you’ll fill it.

2. Find a convenient time of day to journal and a favourite place to spend time with God. (Actually it can be anywhere; cafe’s are my favourite place!)

3. Settle your mind. Pray. Welcome His presence. Perhaps read the Bible and meditate on His love for you.

4. Begin writing.

Begin writing what? You may ask.

Well, you could begin by asking God about something that concerns you. Write it all down. Get it off your chest. Detail it. Express any confusion, hurts, fears or whatever. And now wait to see what comes to mind, then write it down! Write it as it comes to you. Don’t worry about grammar, accuracy or scriptural relevance at this stage. You can always test it later with the Word of God and trusted friends/partner. The important thing is to get into the flow of writing, without feeling anyone looking over your shoulder!

You could begin with writing about how you feel. What’s troubling you, exciting you or challenging you. Just allow yourself to write freely. Let it all out. Hold nothing back. After all, no one is going to know about it except you and God. (Unless you lose your Journal, so guard it with your life!)

As an example, I often write my plans and ideas for ministry, outreach, business, relationships and finances. It really helps to get my thoughts out of my head and on to paper. Sometimes simply reading it back begins to inspire (from God) my thoughts, solutions, creative ideas. In response be ready to write down quickly what is coming to mind. It is so easy to forget what God is saying. – if you do not commit it quickly to paper.

There’s no need to analyse it at this stage what you have written. Just enjoy the spontaneity of writing from your mind and from your heart. And believe that God is right there with you – listening, reading your words and beginning to release solutions, answers to questions and encouraging remarks. He’s your Heavenly Father and desires that you flow in your relationship with Him.

In the Bible we read in John 10:27 that: “My sheep hear my voice…” That’s us! We hear God’s voice speaking to us. Yes, primarily God speaks to us through Scripture – but also spontaneously where the Lord wants us to apply Scripture to a particular life situation. His Word is tailored, as it were, to each of our circumstances. Which is why of course we must never assume a relationship with God outside of regular reading of the Bible.

In a ‘nutshell’, Spiritual Journaling is about what God is saying to you through your prayers, questions and understanding. The journaling process will sustain you in times of hardship, inspire creative solutions to problems and bring clarity and focus to what God is saying and doing in your life.

The writer Henri Nouwen wrote: “To my surprise, I never lost the ability to write. In fact, writing became part of my struggle for survival. It gave me the little distance from myself that I needed to keep from drowning in my despair.” (From the Book: Inner voice of Love.)

Living Fear Free

Jesus came to give me fullness of life. So why am I sick? Why am I fearful? Why am I troubled in my mind – concerned about the Recession, my children’s welfare, my place in the church, etc., etc.

The answer is: ‘Yes,’ in my flesh – the soul’ish realm – I am struggling with the issues of life. BUT, in Christ Jesus I’m Blessed! I’m healthy, healed in my soul, prosperous and have good success. How do I know that? Because the Bible tells me so.

And yet, there is another voice in me – the soul’ish part of me – that screams ‘Fear! Failure! Rejection!

So who do I believe? They are both true if I want them to be. I have a free will choice to believe either realities. And like Paul the Apostle who said in Romans 7:19: “For the good that I will to do, I do not do…” I too have that dilemma.

Yes, I know Satan is the enemy of my soul. I know that he comes to kill, steal and destroy. Generally I stay alert to his schemes and devises. And yet more often than not, he catches me unawares.

For example: I’m sitting in church and someone brings a ‘Prophetic Word’ from the front. I think to myself:

“Well, I knew that! I could have said that! Why did God give him that ‘Word’ to bring and not me?”

Within moments I’ve slipped into jealousy, self-rejection, bitterness etc.,. I hear myself say:

“I’m a hopeless Christian! I don’t know why I bother to come to church…!”

Have you noticed the way the Enemy speaks very loudly? It is his ploy to prevent us from hearing the ‘still small voice’ of the Father speaking to our hearts.

Eventually, after say an hour or so, (sometimes days!), the loud condemning voice begins to subdue and the still small voice of the Father comes to the fore.

“My son, I have loved you with an everlasting love. I have drawn you to Myself. Rest in Me. You are the Apple of My Eye.”

And then I begin to realise that, yes, I could have brought that Word to the church but God choose someone else to bring it – someone who was humble enough to step forward and simply do what they felt the Lord ask of them.

The only important thing is that the Word was brought.

And this is where the ‘rubber hits the road!’ God gives me a Word to share – or some other blessing – and I have a choice. Do I choose to serve Jesus or the enemy of fear?

The only way I have found to resolve this issue is it do it as an act of my own free will. I humble myself – that is, the soul’ish part of me – and I allow Jesus, through His Spirit, to speak or ‘do’ through me.

Yes, it’s scary! Very scary. It might go horribly wrong! But hey! – It’s no longer I that lives anyway; but Jesus Christ that lives. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of Jesus.

This is the remedy to my fear: His perfect Love. Him. Jesus! For it is His perfect love, activated and working through me, that drives out fear! (1 John 4:18)

It is time to step out on His Word. In Isaiah 41:10 He says:

“Fear not for I am with you. Be not afraid for I am your God. I will help you. I will strengthen you I will uphold you with the right hand of my Righteousness.”

God only has me and you to work through. There’s no one else going to do it for Him. And as soon as we choose to step out IN HIM and do it, then FEAR IS DEFEATED

“How Can I Love Myself?”

I found it impossible to love myself before I was a Christian.

I recognised – and am grateful – that I was loved by my parents. I loved certain aspects of my life: I loved nature, beautiful music and art. I loved the countryside and the seaside. Yes, I knew that love existed but I had no real basis upon which to love myself. All I saw was a mixture of faults, fears, hurts, disappointments and failures.

Yes, there were good times – great times even! I had wonderful relationships; I had success in business and as an Entertainer. I travelled much and truly valued my experiences. But that didn’t mean I was loved and that I had intrinsic value and worth.

In fact, I now realise the real motivation behind much of these pursuits was as a means of making me feel loved and valued. Alas, it didn’t work!

The only basis upon which I now know I am loved is because the Bible tells me so.

Not that I particularly feel it. Not that it is worked out in my relationships with others as yet nor myself. It’s true, I still have emotional bagage, hurts and feelings of insecurity and rejection.

But the Bible tells me I am now loved with an everlasting love.

Then what must I do to believe?

* I repent and keep renouncing the lies of the Devil that tells me I am not loved.
* I declare out loud the truth that – in Christ Jesus – I am loved by my Heavenly Father with an everlasting love. “I believe therefore I have spoken.”
* I forgive others for how I perceived they did not love me.
* I forgive myself for not loving me.
* I forgive myself for pressing love in wrong places.
* I forgive previous generations for teaching me to not love myself!
* I choose to love others.
* I reject the lies of the Devil who would try tell me I’m still unloved.
* I turn from jealousy towards others; together with bitterness and resentment.
* I keep focussing on God’s love for me.
* I meditate on the Truth of God’s Word towards me.
* I ask God to help me in all the above.
* I share my love with others.
* I seek prayer ministry, a Counsellor or a Christian Life Coach where I find there are hurts, fears or un-forgivenss in the way of God’s love for me

Discover Your Passion

Passion to serve Jesus will reveal itself in any number of ways, depending on who you are, where you have come from and your life events.

Your passion will always be related to people and not ‘things.’

Your passion may be buried so deep you may not even be aware of it.

So why not take the ‘Passion Test’ right now…?

Take a deep breath and ask yourself the following question.

“What grieves my heart more than anything else?”

Don’t be in a rush to answer; just let the question sink deep down into your heart.

Wait to see what stirs.

Keep a check on your spirit. What is going on deep inside of you?

Are there memories stirring? Perhaps injustices rising to the surface. Anger, bitterness, resentment, jealousy even towards certain people or situations.

It’s ok to feel angry. God feels anger at injustice and sin. But we are to be careful not to trip over into bitterness, blaming and feelings of revenge!

The Bible tells us to be angry and not sin. We are to give our anger over to God for He is the Righteous Judge. (Easier said than done!)

God uses our passion so as to co-operate with Him in converting our anger to positive actions of justice, reconciliation and compassion.

Our greatest healing comes from taking what the Devil intended for harm and turning it to good.

The very act of forgiving others and repenting of sinful attitudes enables justice to be done by handing the situation over to the Lord.

“Vengeance is mine,” says the Lord.

Our part is to keep our hearts right with Him, whilst at the same time exposing the wrongs and confronting the sin. It won’t always mean we have to confront someone (or people) face to face. Often our part is simply to forgive others – maybe ourselves too – and repent of any ungodly attitude towards others, even to God or ourselves.

We are to recognise our ‘part to play’ in bringing about reconciliation where needed.

On the other hand, our part may be to take action in bringing about reconciliation or justice.
That’s how Charities came into existence. Someone, somewhere saw a desperate need to help others; passion arose within them and they took action to help.

Accompanied with prayer, ‘action’ can move mountains – both in our own hearts and in the lives and situation’s of others.

You may feel you want to explore this subject deeper. Why not talk it through with a trusted Minister or seek out a Christian Life Coach – someone who is trained to identify ‘vision’ and to help discover ways to fulfil them. Someone who will pray with you and seek the prompting of the Holy Spirit.

You will never be the same again!

Time to Invest in Gold?

When I became a Chistian 17 years ago Gold had very little perceived value. It was seen to be an outmoded hedge against inflation or financial crisis. The incumbent Chancellor of the Exchequer at that time even sold a large churk of the UK’s Gold reserves. Since then the value of Gold has risen considerably.

It was no coincidence that I began to develop an interest in buying Gold; not because I am particularly a shrewd investor, but because the Lord had begun to reveal Himself to be a ‘Refiners Fire’ – bringing forth pure Gold through His Word and by His Spirit.

The physical often has its’ source in the Spiritual and so, as well as buying Gold, I began to dip my toe into the whole area of Inner Healing, or Sanctification – as the Bible calls it.

I discovered that His Word showed me the condition of my heart; the Holy Spirit applying pressure, or heat as it were, to the very core of my being.

Little by little the ‘dross’ came to the surface and was scooped off through repentance and prayer. I became more free in my relationships; I began to feel better about myself and more comfortable about the person God made me to be. I found the things I used to worry about held less power over me; and most of all I found myself a loving wife who God used to help refine even deeper parts of my ‘being.’

The process continues of course; there seems to be no limit to the depths of unrefined Gold hidden in ‘them there hills!’ But by His grace, little by little, the very nature of Christ is being revealed through me – and of course the Body of Christ in the Earth. It begins with me and it begins with you; and as we each begin to shine brighter for Jesus then the world will once again see the true value of the Lord’s Gold. I recommend you get into this great investment, that is, who we are In Christ Jesus –  before it’s too late!

If you know God is calling you to the Sanctification process, you will need someone to stand with you and to be accountable to. Please Click Here for a Free ‘Getting Started’ Coaching Session.
