How to be free from Indecision, Confusion & Doubt

The Writer of Proverbs put’s it this way…

“There are many plans in a man’s heart, Nevertheless the Lords counsel – that will stand.”

images-1As a Born again Christian I have inherited the very ‘Mind of Christ’, through the Word and by His Spirit.

I am beginning to think like Him, speak like Him and Do like Him. This is the Lord’s counsel which is accepted by grace through faith in Him.

It is not found in the ‘daily star-signs’ of my favourite News paper; nor by seeking a ‘word’ from here, there and everywhere.

Truth is, it’s time for me to grow up and seek the counsel of the Holy Spirit; to listen to Him – the still voice of the Holy Spirit – and balance it with Scripture.

“…and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus” (Phil 4:7)

How to be Free From Christian Regrets

“… forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead…” Failure!

The Christian life is forever forward-looking. And yet so many of us are crippled by past hurts, disappointments and regrets.

The consequences of this dilema is that we are no longer able to fulfill the second part of this well-known Scripture: “… I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus..” (Philippians 3:14)

The ‘Prize’ is God’s call upon our life ‘In Christ Jesus’. It is a calling far higher than we would ever imagine! (Especially when so many of us are dealing with regrets, disappointments and failures).

And yet God can, and will, restore the wasted years and the missed opportunities. We only need to give Him our faith, based upon His promises, and then rest in Him.

Fear of Man

Fear of Man will cripple God’s Plan for your life!

I have missed so many opportunities to witness to folk who are needy and in trouble; or to images-3warn a friend who is clearly going in a wrong spiritual direction; or a neighbor struggling with family discipline; or even to speak up for Biblical Principles related to situations of moral rights. And even to simply radiate the love of God!

The trouble is I get so fearful of what people think of me I can barely communicate my Faith!

So how can it be that someone like myself: Born Again Christian, Church-Goer, truly passionate for the Lord, be so easily ashamed of Jesus?

I think the answer is that there is an injustice going on that say’s, in essence, that Born Again Believers are not really part of main stream Society – and therefore would not naturally want to affiliate with mainstream Culture. In other words, I’m weird because I’m not like them.

It’s amazing that I am happy to listen endlessly to their own particular ‘take on life’, about their philosophies, their New Age beliefs and their worldly wisdom. But mention anything to do with the Truth of the Word of God and…. silence!! Or worse, they will tell me it is only useful for allegorical tales and for something to hold on to as a crutch for weak-willed people.

Meanwhile, the terrible truth is that they are going to Hell! And that includes friends of mine, relatives and even some church-goers!

So, how can it be that someone like myself, so passionate for the Kingdom of Heaven, be so ashamed of Jesus? It’s as though there is an injustice that say’s it’s ok for unbelievers to say what they want and believe what they want, but if I dare mention anything to do with The Truth of God’s Word…Silence!

This is what I’m beginning to realise: It’s time to die to self and to live totally for Jesus; which can only be done by being ‘Hidden in Christ’ This is my protection from attacks, shaming and fear of man. ‘In Christ’ I am hidden in from mocking’s and rejection BECAUSE Jesus took it all on the Cross. So, the bottom line and the antidote for my protection is this:

“I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer I live but, but Christ Lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in Jesus!” Galatians 2: 20

It’s not about me but Jesus!

The Word of Life

The Word of God is the foundation for all prosperous living. God wants us to be fruitful and to have good success in every area of life  – What a testimony of His Goodness to others!

800px-Psalter-with-roseAs we abide in Him (John 15:7) and meditate on His Word, (say on the subject of Healing), we begin to voice out loud our faith, for “…out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. (Matt 12: ) The act of confessing our faith out loud and meditating on His will for us produces pictures of LIFE within our heart’s; for as the Scripture says “.. as he thinks in his heart,” so is he.”

What we believe, in our hearts about ourselves, comes to pass. This is because the imagination of the heart focuses our intention on these thoughts, and the heart naturally seeks to bring them about! This is why the Lord told us to “Choose Life.” Deut 30:19

Here are some ‘Life Giving’ Scriptures to meditate upon. And as you do, put yourself right in the centre of Gods will.

I am…. “God’s child for I am born again of incorruptible seed of the Word of God which lives and abides forever.” (1 Peter:23)

“A new creature.” (2 Cor 5:17)

“Complete in Him” (Col 2:10)

“Joint heirs with Christ Jesus” (Rom 8 :17)

“Rooted and built up in Him” (Col 2 : 7)

Journaling your Christian Life

“Talking with God, The Word” By Peter j Foster

You’re either a fan of journaling, or not.

If not, let me try convert you to the benefits of this growing Art of communication with God.

First of all, please be assured this is not about ‘automatic handwriting’, the sort practised by New Ager’s. This is for Born Again, Spirit-filled Believers who desire to talk to God and to hear God speaking to them – to develop their relationship with Father God and continue to seek Him.

I guess you could say that Journaling would help if you enjoy writing; but this is not necessary true. I kept a journal for many years before I became a Christian. I found it remarkably therapeutic in committing my thoughts, plans, ideas and concerns to paper. I love writing, but this is not about writing per se. It is about developing a relationship with Father God

So here goes with your first step in relating with God through Journaling.

1. Get yourself a handy writing pad; not too small, you’ll be surprised how quickly you’ll fill it.

2. Find a convenient time of day to journal and a favourite place to spend time with God. (Actually it can be anywhere; cafe’s are my favourite place!)

3. Settle your mind. Pray. Welcome His presence. Perhaps read the Bible and meditate on His love for you.

4. Begin writing.

Begin writing what? You may ask.

Well, you could begin by asking God about something that concerns you. Write it all down. Get it off your chest. Detail it. Express any confusion, hurts, fears or whatever. And now wait to see what comes to mind, then write it down! Write it as it comes to you. Don’t worry about grammar, accuracy or scriptural relevance at this stage. You can always test it later with the Word of God and trusted friends/partner. The important thing is to get into the flow of writing, without feeling anyone looking over your shoulder!

You could begin with writing about how you feel. What’s troubling you, exciting you or challenging you. Just allow yourself to write freely. Let it all out. Hold nothing back. After all, no one is going to know about it except you and God. (Unless you lose your Journal, so guard it with your life!)

As an example, I often write my plans and ideas for ministry, outreach, business, relationships and finances. It really helps to get my thoughts out of my head and on to paper. Sometimes simply reading it back begins to inspire (from God) my thoughts, solutions, creative ideas. In response be ready to write down quickly what is coming to mind. It is so easy to forget what God is saying. – if you do not commit it quickly to paper.

There’s no need to analyse it at this stage what you have written. Just enjoy the spontaneity of writing from your mind and from your heart. And believe that God is right there with you – listening, reading your words and beginning to release solutions, answers to questions and encouraging remarks. He’s your Heavenly Father and desires that you flow in your relationship with Him.

In the Bible we read in John 10:27 that: “My sheep hear my voice…” That’s us! We hear God’s voice speaking to us. Yes, primarily God speaks to us through Scripture – but also spontaneously where the Lord wants us to apply Scripture to a particular life situation. His Word is tailored, as it were, to each of our circumstances. Which is why of course we must never assume a relationship with God outside of regular reading of the Bible.

In a ‘nutshell’, Spiritual Journaling is about what God is saying to you through your prayers, questions and understanding. The journaling process will sustain you in times of hardship, inspire creative solutions to problems and bring clarity and focus to what God is saying and doing in your life.

The writer Henri Nouwen wrote: “To my surprise, I never lost the ability to write. In fact, writing became part of my struggle for survival. It gave me the little distance from myself that I needed to keep from drowning in my despair.” (From the Book: Inner voice of Love.)

I can do all things

“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”

This well known verse from Phiippeans verse 4:13 is a great encouragement for many of us.

The word “Do” is often seen to be an invitation to execute our own strength and determination to achieve ‘good things’ in our lives.

It actually refers to our willingness to allow Christ’s power to sustain us in difficulties and challenges. It also refers to Christ’s power within us to enjoy, to the full, the good success and abundance that does come our way.

I have found there is a battle going on in my soul at this time. Even as a Christian, after many years, I still find my self attempting to sort things out in my own strength.

With the economy in difficulty, jobs being lost, cut-backs here, cut-backs there, it is a challenging time for us all.

One response I’ve noticed is to get tough with the Devil! To stomp around declaring faith-filled scriptures,; praying fervently: rebuking this, rebuking that and generally getting into a right tizz about it!

But, behind all that spiritual bravardo there whispers a still small voice that says: “Seek first the kingdom or God and His righteousness, and all thee things shall be added to you.” (Matthew 6:33)

It is primarily a time of developing a closer relationship with God the Father. It is a time of standing still and seeing the salvation of the Lord God who is with us.

It is a time of believing His Word in love – and not in desperation (fear!)

What the Lord wants is for us to know that we have His promises first on the inside; and then, from out of the abundance of our hearts we speak His life on the outside.

In other words, it’s an ‘inside out’ job.

So here’s some scripture’s to help get us started on your inside-out breakthrough…

“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” (Phi 4:13)

“I am strenghened with might through His Spirit in the inner man,…” Eph 3:16

“You will not need to fight in this battle. Position yourselves, stand still and see the salvation of the Lord, who is with you.” 2 Chron. 20:17

“Not by might or by power, but my My Spirit,” Zech 4:6

“…for the battle is the Lord’s,.. 1 Sam 17:47

What do you think? I’d love to have your comments.

A Revelation of who you are In Christ

(To be read out loud twice a day, with a big smile on your face, for 30 days)

* I am fearfully and wonderfully made.

* I am blessed with every spiritual blessing in heavenly places in Christ Jesus.

* I am the head and not the tail, above only and not beneath.

* I am strong in the Lord and in the power of His might; strengthened with might according to His glorious power.

* I am a Royal Priesthood, a Holy Generation.

* I am salt and light in the world.

* I am holy and dearly loved.

* I am forgiven of all my sins; washed in the blood of Jesus.

* I am loved with an everlasting love; therefore with loving kindness He has drawn me.

* I am healed by His stripes.

* I am delivered from my destructions and healed of my diseases.

* I am the Righteousness of God in Christ Jesus.

* I am hidden with Christ in God.

* I am rooted and grounded in His love.

* I am saved, healed and made whole.

* I am free through the blood of the lamb and the word of my testimony.

These Truths take a while to get down into the heart. Keep confessing them: day after day.

Next month: “What I can do…”

“To cause to feel shame; make ashamed.”

The message of shame is that we are innately flawed and have no real value or worth in life.

A knee-jerk reaction is to try make ourselves of value and worth through performance and ‘works.’ Although this might serve us well for a while, we will always be fearful of being exposed – and so we try more and more to make ourselves look good through what we do, what we have and what we know.

On the other hand, some of us have been told from our youth that having ‘shame’ is a worthy quality so as to keep us on the straight and narrow; ie: “Have you NO shame!”

And then we see, for us Christians, that Jesus Himself (Heb:12.2) endured the Cross and scorned the shame. (Although we must remember that he never accepted the lie that he had no value.)

The point is that for us Born-again Christians, there is therefore now no longer any shame, guilt nor condemnation. No matter what the ‘world’ thinks about shame nor how it deals with shame, we are exempt from any bondage to shame.

We throw off shame – or the temptation to feel shame – in exactly the same way we throw off any other lie of the devil. For the Truth is that we are hidden with Christ in God; and just as Christ is valued and loved by the Father, so are we.

The revelation of God the Fathers’ love for us is the antidote to shame. It is, in fact, the only antidote to shame. It cannot be worked-up through effort; it cannot be earned nor purchased through good-works nor performance. It is only through the Blood of Jesus – and the word of our confession – that we are free. In other words, this is a mind-renewal job!

I recently went on a ‘Father Heart’ course, hosted by Peter and Heather Jackson and found they have not only an anointing to teach the Fathers’ Heart but also a revelation that it comes about by ‘throwing off the old, and putting on the new’.
Like any other grace, the Fathers’ Love is received by faith, by being set free by the Word of God.

So, if it’s a matter of Faith, that I can coach myself in!

Just as ‘with His stripes I am healed..’ so am I also ‘loved with an everlasting love.’

The Love of God

L. Learning to engage the Grace of God in relationship with one’s self and with others.

O. Offering up our own agenda in preference to God’s agenda.

V. Valuing ourselves and others regardless of where we are in our journey’s of Grace.

E. Empowering ourselves and others with the finished work of the Cross of Calvery.

Prosperity Gospel. “Promises In The Bible”

With the Economy suffering the effects of overheating, I realise that I been been spending not only my money in excess but have been ‘spending’ my words in excess too!

The senseless greed that has been driving me to buy more or less whatever I want has been driving me to ‘SAY’ more or less whatever I want! If it ‘pops into my mind’ then I’ll say it. (Often with dire consequences!)

The Bible says that out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. So the question I have to ask myself is ‘What is in my heart?’
Well, I guess the truth is there is a mixture of good stuff and bad stuff! There is a good deposit of God’s Word; and there is a deposit of the bad stuff of the world and the flesh – which is all fear-based!

Each moment of my waking day I have a choice to speak either good or bad – ‘life or death,’- as the Bible puts it.

So, now I see clearly the effects of drawing from a bankrupt financial economy, I am jolted into considering the effects of overdrawing from my bankrupt economy of the Word of God. Do I have enough of the life of God in me to weather these turbulent times?

I have come to the decision that NOW is the time to invest in the inflation busting, powerful and life-giving Word of God – not only to ‘weather the storms’ of life’s ups and downs but to prosper ‘in any situation and any economy. God’s Word is the only economy that will never go bust!

Perhaps you’d like to speak out and meditate on these Scriptural Promises, until they become part of your very being.

“Delight yourself in the Lord; and He shall give you the desires of your heart.” Ps. 37:4

“Blessed be the Lord, who daily loads us with benefits, even the God of our salvation.” Ps. 68:19

“That I may cause those that love Me to inherit substance; and I will fill their treasures.” Prov. 8:21

“But seek first the Kingdom of God, and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” Mt. 6:33

“But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” Phil. 4:6

“Let the Lord be magnified, who has pleasure in the prosperity of His servant.” Ps. 35:27b

“That I may cause those that love me to inherit substance; and I will fill their treasures.” Prov. 8:21

“Beloved, I wish above all things that you may prosper and be in health, even as your should prospers.” 111 Jn. 2

I hope you have a happy and prosperous New Year.

Living Fear Free

Jesus came to give me fullness of life. So why am I sick? Why am I fearful? Why am I troubled in my mind – concerned about the Recession, my children’s welfare, my place in the church, etc., etc.

The answer is: ‘Yes,’ in my flesh – the soul’ish realm – I am struggling with the issues of life. BUT, in Christ Jesus I’m Blessed! I’m healthy, healed in my soul, prosperous and have good success. How do I know that? Because the Bible tells me so.

And yet, there is another voice in me – the soul’ish part of me – that screams ‘Fear! Failure! Rejection!

So who do I believe? They are both true if I want them to be. I have a free will choice to believe either realities. And like Paul the Apostle who said in Romans 7:19: “For the good that I will to do, I do not do…” I too have that dilemma.

Yes, I know Satan is the enemy of my soul. I know that he comes to kill, steal and destroy. Generally I stay alert to his schemes and devises. And yet more often than not, he catches me unawares.

For example: I’m sitting in church and someone brings a ‘Prophetic Word’ from the front. I think to myself:

“Well, I knew that! I could have said that! Why did God give him that ‘Word’ to bring and not me?”

Within moments I’ve slipped into jealousy, self-rejection, bitterness etc.,. I hear myself say:

“I’m a hopeless Christian! I don’t know why I bother to come to church…!”

Have you noticed the way the Enemy speaks very loudly? It is his ploy to prevent us from hearing the ‘still small voice’ of the Father speaking to our hearts.

Eventually, after say an hour or so, (sometimes days!), the loud condemning voice begins to subdue and the still small voice of the Father comes to the fore.

“My son, I have loved you with an everlasting love. I have drawn you to Myself. Rest in Me. You are the Apple of My Eye.”

And then I begin to realise that, yes, I could have brought that Word to the church but God choose someone else to bring it – someone who was humble enough to step forward and simply do what they felt the Lord ask of them.

The only important thing is that the Word was brought.

And this is where the ‘rubber hits the road!’ God gives me a Word to share – or some other blessing – and I have a choice. Do I choose to serve Jesus or the enemy of fear?

The only way I have found to resolve this issue is it do it as an act of my own free will. I humble myself – that is, the soul’ish part of me – and I allow Jesus, through His Spirit, to speak or ‘do’ through me.

Yes, it’s scary! Very scary. It might go horribly wrong! But hey! – It’s no longer I that lives anyway; but Jesus Christ that lives. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of Jesus.

This is the remedy to my fear: His perfect Love. Him. Jesus! For it is His perfect love, activated and working through me, that drives out fear! (1 John 4:18)

It is time to step out on His Word. In Isaiah 41:10 He says:

“Fear not for I am with you. Be not afraid for I am your God. I will help you. I will strengthen you I will uphold you with the right hand of my Righteousness.”

God only has me and you to work through. There’s no one else going to do it for Him. And as soon as we choose to step out IN HIM and do it, then FEAR IS DEFEATED
